What a find! For just a few dollars more than the Holiday Inn type of hotels, this is a world of difference. Like a boutique hotel. Rooms are wonderful as is the staff, and they go out of their way to help you. The restaurant is another reason to stay. Great food (usually don't hear that about hotel food!) and very reasonably priced. Their breakfast starts at 7:30 most days and the day I was there it was delayed to 8 since there was a minor issue. I told them I really had to leave ASAP so they asked what I would have ordered. I told them and the specially made it for me- gratis! And so glad they did, I had the absolute best oatmeal I have ever had (and I have been to lots of hotels around the world). Be sure to order- called overnights oats.

My family was delighted to discover The Heartwood! The setting is lovely, perched below the historic Alumni House at Vassar College, with the entire beautiful campus of paths and lake for contemplative morning walks and the cute Arlington business district for coffee and other college town offerings. The staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel clean and well-designed, the beds comfortable. Everyone enjoyed the bonus of continental breakfast provided at the excellent Salt Line restaurant, but the real surprise was the dog bed and special attention given our traveling pet. We will be back!

Christopher checked me in. There was a couple ahead of me. He was most gracious. He even managed to handle phone calls coming in. He always said “thank you for your patience”, as I waited for him to finish his call. I noticed how attentive he was to the caller, who it appeared was calling for a potential job. He wasn’t dismissive, but took careful attention to take as many details as he could, even though he told the caller they were not hiring at the time. He explained where everything was in the hotel; very detailed. He was just so pleasant! Showed me the little cubby room behind the check in area where I could find more history of Vassar. The room was clean and pleasant. I mean, there are bathrobes too!!! The water pressure was crazy!!!! I could have stayed in there for hours!!! The only thing I couldn’t figure out was the coffee maker. But that’s in me!!

So happy we booked this hotel. Right next to Vassar, and very walkable. The rooms were spacious and beautiful, new modern lobby, friendly staff and a great breakfast if you choose. Would come back again for sure!

My girlfriend and I had a great time staying at the Heartwood. We were on a weekend trip to celebrate her birthday, which I noted in my reservation. The hotel staff was extremely thoughtful in assigning us a great room and leaving a very kind note with attached voucher to the Salt Line restaurant. The latter part of our stay coincided with a blizzard which closed many local shops, but between the hotel restaurant and the great amenities available throughout the hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed the days we were snowed in. Thanks again to everyone who helped make this a great trip to Poughkeepsie, I hope to return this summer!

It couldn’t be more convenient when visiting Vassar- just steps away from campus. The hotel is so beautiful and the staff could not be more friendly, engaged and accommodating. Comfy bed, great shower and a wonderful bar and restaurant in the lobby - Salt Line. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing last minute stay after our car broke down outside of Poughkeepsie. Although arriving at 11PM, the front desk staff was more than welcoming, even giving our dog a treat. The room was brand new, well cleaned, and you could tell a lot of care went into the creation. Lots of nice details - mini fridge, robe, and an espresso machine. We only peeked our heads in, but the fitness facilities looked amazing. The included breakfast exceeded all expectations. Overnight oats and chia pudding, fruit, and toast were all really good and the staff attentive. All in all we had an amazing stay and I’d love to come back! To the hotel: the water served at breakfast tasted less than ideal - I know there’s not much to do about tap quality but just as an FYI. Also, offering a bowl for those checking in with dogs would be a really nice touch. Thanks!!

This is probably one of my favorite boutique hotels! The staff is incredible, always smiling, helpful and there when you need them. The finish out in the rooms is perfect, so stylish, comfortable and well thought out. Restaurant and lobby feel like a cozy lounge and high end boutique at its best.
